Pattern Room

Tile section

art for building.

One of the goals, in creating my drawings, was the search for new textures, as I was already passionate about aperiodic figures, without yet knowing their names.

In this study, I created some groups of 3 tiles (for each type you get 3 pattern-weaves by mirroring only one of them in the two possible ways).
You can obtain a symmetrical pattern by laying them with the right rotation, but if you rotate the pattern allows, in proportion to the surface to be covered, countless solutions will be possible that will never give the eye the feeling of interruption. The pattern always closes.

When my work in technical design turned into a passion for artistic drawing, I remember submitting one of my first drawings to a friendly criticism from an oil painting artist.
He advised me to work on the background, to fill it in more.
I then remembered when I was a kid and, like almost everyone else, I would spend entire days in class drawing by filling in the pages of my diary.
I searched my diaries and found the archetype of my style.

(1995)

Then, as I continued, I needed to fill in larger and larger drawing areas.
For some of these areas I wanted to create groups of coherent closed contours (leaves for example) that I could replicate in every direction.

In the case of the Hexagonal Tile, it is possible to achieve the optical effect of a leafy mantle without perceiving the interruption of the joint or straight lines of flanking.
With further work, one could even create side-by-side hexagonal tiles without having to take care of the right rotation.

Once the intended area is filled, thanks to the vector support, you can remove the excess fill and obtain any shape filled, as in this case, with leaves.
